BFR — blood flow restriction bands
Pneumatic bands that let an athlete build serious strength and muscle using light weights — by making the body think it's lifting heavy.
Worn high on the arms or legs, the bands gently restrict blood flow out of the limb while you do light, high-rep exercise. Metabolites and cell swelling build up, which drives growth-hormone release, fast-twitch fiber recruitment, and a hypertrophy response. Studies show loads as light as 20–40% of max can produce strength and muscle gains comparable to traditional heavy lifting.
This is the headline benefit for young athletes: build strength without piling heavy load onto growing joints, tendons, and spines. It's also a proven way to keep training — and even gain — while rehabbing an injury.
Muscle is the organ of aging — keeping it is one of the best predictors of a strong, independent later life. BFR lets parents and grandparents train effectively with weights light enough to be joint-friendly.
